2008 Cooperstown Team
As we do each year, our 12 year old travel teams goes off for 1 week to play in All Star Village in Cooperstown NY,
home of the Baseball Hall Of Fame. They play teams from as far as California in a beautiful setting. The children
dorm and dine with the other teams, and make lasting friendships and memories. The parents have a great time as
well! I have attached some photos of the players in action for your enjoyment.

RENOVATION!
For 2009, we are planning to do more cement work at Whelan, new larger backstops
at Rosenberg T-Ball fields, including a fenced in outfield!
UMPIRES
We use certified umpires for all games ages 9-18, and for ages 7-8 when they play at Whelan Field.
For other games, we use Middle School and High School League graduates and school team players.
They are instructed, and know the game well. We will be holding a class for any child 13-18 who has
played or is playing in our league.  The pay is 20.00 per game. We supply the equipment. Parents are
welcome as well.
Code of Conduct that all members signed or electronically approved when registering. We are even
stricter with the youth umpires. Arguing will get you suspended as well. We will go as far as to
prosecute criminally or civilly as well. Though it has not happened in years, we believe it is because of
our ZERO TOLERANCE policy. Other leagues have not been as fortunate. Please remember that
even the pros make mistakes. If a mistake is made, managers may discuss it as adults with the umpire
and correct it. Its that simple, no screaming or yelling. Its just a game.
2009 fund raiser almost complete. We HAVE PURCHASED AND INSTALLED ( 6/1/09) a complete royal blue outfield
windscreen at Whelan Field, as well as 3 - 3x5 outfield distance markers. We have closed off the left field line with new
fencing and wind screen tooWe are remaking the foul poles, extending the safety fence project along Wantagh Avenue
as well as extensive cement work at 4 fields. We will continue to give your child the best baseball experience possible!

Opening Day at George Merkouris Field
Thanks to the 150 people who attended opening day at our Newest field at Gardiners Avenue School. It has been
named after George Merkouris, a former league member, and neighbor who perished in the attacks on the Twin
Towers on 9/11. The day went beautifully. From Lauren Miller and Mikki Bratica singing the national Anthem to Steven
Merkouris, georges youngest son getting the game winning hit with 2 out in the last inning! A storybook ending to a
beautiful story!  Here are some pictures taken before the game. Please enjoy them!

By far, we get the most questions from new T-Ball parents. We all asked the same questions once. Here is the deal. Your 1st
time ever playing 5 year old and all 4 year olds play in the Peanut Division. It is T-Ball, with Honker Bases, hit sticks, pop up nets
and throwing targets. Practice is 1/2 hour to 45 minutes prior to the games. They play one weekday game and one Saturday
Game. Saturday games begin 12:00 noon at the earliest, so your child may still play soccer, swimming or gymnastics.
They play at Rosenberg Fields on Wantagh Avenue. It is a beautiful T-Ball 3 field complex. In the last 3 years, we built a 3rd field,
fenced in the dugouts, cemented the dugouts as well, and added 350 feet of new safety fencing.
We are installing new Child height benches in the dugout, as well as installing 3 new backstops dedicated to former coaches
who have passed away.
The ROOKIE DIVISION is for 2nd year 5 year old players and all 6 year old players. They play the same times and days as peanuts.
They use a pitching machine and outs count. There are no wins and losses counted. They play a 4 inning game. Managers of
both Peanuts and Rookie Division teams can select which weekdays work best or which weekend times work best for their work
schedules. As long as a child is registered early, they can choose to play with particular coaches or friends.
The season starts the last weekend in April, not the first like the older kids. IT IS TOO CHILLY FOR THEM. It ends the last week of
school, with a giant carnival with food, rides, deejay, face painting etc for them when they get their trophies!
They will still play about 12-14 games! We keep the rosters as small as possible and keep the coaching ratio to about 3 or 4
children per coach. It works better that way. They do not get bored. All this I guess is the reason why we have almost  200
children ages 4-6 every year!
